Hey Columbia! Are you tired of sitting in traffic? Do you feel like some roads are just a little too congested? Well, you’re in luck because the Central Midlands Council of Governments wants to hear from you! They’re embarking on an exciting journey to ease congestion in our beautiful Midlands region, and your feedback is key!
Since late 2023, the council has been collaborating with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) to devise a traffic management plan. Why now? Because the Federal Highway Administration requires an update to their Congestion Management Plan, and they’re rolling out the red carpet for community input!
Reginald Simmons, the transportation director, emphasized, “Our goal is always to work in concert to improve the transportation network.” This means they want to tackle those pesky traffic bottlenecks, ensuring a smooth driving experience for all of us. When it comes to moving more efficiently, every little bit helps!
From now until December 31, the council is inviting residents to participate in a public survey. They’re eager to gather all your thoughts about the traffic woes you face in our region. Don’t hold back—this is your chance to help shape solutions for a better commute!
But that’s not all! Following the survey, there will be additional public meetings to dive deeper into solutions in early 2024. They hope to wrap things up with actual strategies to tackle congestion in the Midlands soon after!
Lexington area, obviously. Richland County. Downtown Columbia, out to Forest Acres. Some congestion showing up in the Chapin area,” he explained. With this valuable intel, the council can focus on developing solutions that truly address the areas where we need them most.
To fill out the survey, you’ll find it’s clearly laid out with five tabs containing categories and rating prompts to guide your feedback. Plus, an interactive map will allow you to point out exactly where the morning and evening traffic jams hit hardest!
Let’s not forget about the upcoming public meeting scheduled for December 18, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., at the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. Mark your calendars, folks! This meeting will be another chance for you to voice your concerns and share ideas. Every bit of feedback received will help pave the way for a smoother road ahead!
So, Columbia, don’t sit idly by! Your voice can make a difference in how we tackle these traffic troubles. The more input they receive, the better the plan will be. Grab your smartphone or hop on your laptop and get involved in this important conversation for our community.
Remember, better traffic flow benefits everyone. With your help, we can make our Columbia area a more enjoyable place to drive. Go ahead, take that survey, and let’s hit the road to a less congested future together!
