In Columbia, South Carolina, the family of Julian “JuJu” Keel is seeking justice after he was tragically shot and killed at a graduation party on June 2. A local law firm has been hired by the family to examine all avenues for justice, including a potential lawsuit.

Keel was an unfortunate bystander when gunfire broke out at the party, which took place outside Roll-Out Wangz Egg Rollz and Thangz on Colonial Life Boulevard. Authorities reported that over 50 rounds were fired from at least four different guns, striking Keel in the upper body as he attempted to flee. Hospitalized shortly after the incident, Keel sadly passed away.

Safety Measures Could Have Prevented Tragedy

The family alleges that Keel’s death could have been prevented if the venue had put in place adequate safety precautions. In a statement released by their law firm, the family highlighted that venue owners often risk lives by ignoring basic safety and security measures in the pursuit of profit.

“Innocents like Julian Keel end up paying the price,” said Bakari Sellers, the family’s attorney.

Despite their grief, Keel’s family will continue cooperating with the ongoing investigation into Julian’s death. His mother, Adrien Lake-Watson, stressed that the family won’t rest until all those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

“The void that Julian’s death has left in our lives can never be filled,” Lake-Watson expressed. “No mother should ever have to bury her child. We crave justice so that no other family has to endure the nightmare we are currently living.”

A City and Community Mourns

Keel’s death has cast a shadow over the community that is still grieving and demanding justice for their loss. His funeral took place on June 7, drawing mourning family, friends, and community members.
