Columbia is buzzing with excitement as two beloved local businesses have officially made their grand return, and they’ve chosen a vibrant new location on Gervais Street! Blossom Shop, a floral gem that has been sprucing up the city since the late 1940s, and EQ Fitness & Physical Therapy, a dynamic spot for fitness enthusiasts, have both opened their doors in a charming shared space at 1815 Gervais St.
On Tuesday, the community gathered to celebrate the grand openings, with a special appearance by Mayor Daniel Rickenmann and other city officials. The relocated Blossom Shop now occupies the front of the building, while EQ Fitness takes over the back part of the facility. It’s a delightful sight, blending the allure of fresh flowers with the energy of fitness all under one roof!
Before this move, Blossom Shop called Five Points home for several decades. Co-owner Cubby Culbertson shared that the decision to relocate was influenced by various factors. “We loved our time in Five Points, but parking was a challenge. The old space felt a bit dated,” Culbertson explained. “Now, at Gervais Street, there’s a definite ‘wow’ factor! High ceilings, lots of natural light, and beautiful floors make the environment feel welcoming and fresh.”
Furthermore, the location’s foot and vehicle traffic is a massive plus. With about 30,000 cars passing daily, it’s a prime spot for attracting new customers. “The feedback from our clients has been incredible!” Culbertson added enthusiastically.
And let’s not forget about EQ Fitness! Co-owner Wesley Newsom highlighted that the Gervais Street location opens up a universe of possibilities for their growth. “It’s super convenient for our clients to access us now. They can come straight shot from Forest Acres or connect from West Columbia. Plus, we have more amenities like showers and a spacious area for workouts!” he said.
Newsom reflected on the time spent at Devine Street, saying, “We loved it there, but we simply outgrew the space.” Exciting times are ahead as they settle into their new home!
Mayor Rickenmann took a moment to commend the contrasting nature of the two businesses. “It’s truly a beautiful thing about Columbia. Here we have a flower shop that’s been around for decades and a brand-new fitness studio, all at one address. This mix of legacy businesses and newcomers strengthens our community,” he remarked.
As Columbia’s business scene continues to flourish, it’s inspiring to see local establishments making the leap and adapting to new adventures. With these fresh starts on Gervais Street, both Blossom Shop and EQ Fitness & Physical Therapy are poised to thrive in their revitalized environments.
So, whether you’re in need of a stunning bouquet or looking to break a sweat, be sure to check out these fantastic businesses at 1815 Gervais St. The welcoming doors are now open, and the community is eager to support these local treasures as they embark on this new chapter!
