Columbia Launches Annual Food Drive to Honor Dr. King and Support Local Families in Need

Columbia Shines Bright with Sunshine and Community Spirit

Good morning, Columbia! As we step into another lovely day, expect some clouds in the morning to gently roll away, making way for mainly sunny skies this afternoon. With a high of 68°F making the day feel just right, why not take a moment to appreciate the beautiful weather as you go about your day? The winds will be light, blowing from the southwest at about 5 to 10 mph. And as you wind down tonight, the temperature is expected to dip to a cozy 39°F. So, don’t forget to grab a light jacket if you’re stepping out later!

A Golden Opportunity to Give Back

Speaking of wonderful days, Columbia has kicked off a season of giving with the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Honor the Dream Food Drive. Organized by the City of Columbia, the Richland School District One, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation, this fantastic initiative started on November 11 and will continue until December 9. It’s all about honoring the incredible legacy of Dr. King, focused on community service and helping those in need.

The food drive aims to benefit Harvest Hope Food Bank, an organization that does amazing work providing food to those facing hunger in our communities. What can you do to help? Well, if you’re planning a grocery run or have some extra items at home, consider donating some of the requested items, which include:

  • Canned fruits and vegetables
