Columbia, S.C. is buzzing with excitement this weekend as the third weekend in September brings an array of delightful festivals and cultural events right to our doorstep! Whether you’re a fan of tasty Greek treats, soulful music, or even a little friendly competition, this weekend has something for everyone.

Greek Festival: A Taste of Greece Right in Columbia

First up on the agenda is the highly anticipated Columbia’s Greek Festival, which runs from Thursday through Sunday. This beloved community event is an annual highlight, where locals and visitors alike indulge in mouthwatering Greek goodies. From spiced spanakopita to sizzling gyros, your taste buds are in for a treat!

And if you’re thinking of bringing the whole family along, they’re going to love what’s on offer! The festival hours run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Apart from the food, there will be music, traditional dancing, and even self-guided tours of the stunning Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. It’s a fantastic way to experience Greek culture right here in the heart of Columbia!

If you’re more in the mood for music, you won’t want to miss out on the Soulful Sounds in Columbia event at the Busby Street Community Center on Friday from 7-9 p.m.. Get ready for some live tunes from Acute Inflections, who’ll be covering classics from legends like Billie Holiday to modern hits from Erykah Badu. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., so grab your friends and come enjoy a great night of music!

Explore Art and Culture

Art lovers should swing by the CityArt Gallery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, where North Carolina artist Tim Turner showcases his large-scale canvases in the Songs of Celebration Exhibit. His vibrant work focuses on the joy found in everyday moments – truly inspiring!

Food and Fun for Everyone!

Let’s not forget Food Truck Friday! Head over to the REI Co-Op parking lot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for some fantastic food trucks like La Dolce Vita Pizza, Tacos Oink Oink, and Leafy Delight Eats & More, ensuring that everyone will find something to satisfy their craving. Yummy!

A Weekend Full of Theatre

Also this weekend, Town Theatre will be presenting Anything Goes, a Cole Porter classic. Catch performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. If you’re looking for a unique twist, the Harbison Theatre will host a gospel stage play titled If You Only Knew…, exploring themes of trust and faith.

As we shift from summer, the Oktoberfest celebrations are also kicking off this weekend! Head to the Bierkeller Columbia from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday for traditional German food and beer specials that will transport you straight to Bavaria!
