The Department of Social Services (DSS) officials announced the change today, stating that it influences anyone working in child care in the state.
Under this new legislation, anyone involved in child care duties must hold a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized by the State School Board. Previously, persons without formal education also stood a chance to work in the child care domain. This update intends to assure that child care professionals have a minimum educational foundation, ensuring quality performance in their roles. The adjustment also increases the chances for the constantly evolving child care sector to be more aligned with national standards.
Furthermore, the law necessitates anyone wishing to work in child care to complete 15 hours of health and safety training. From now on, all budding child care employees will need to invest in training that educates them about adhering to health and safety standards in different care giving situations.
Next, the law stipulates that new child care employees must be directly supervised for the first 30 days of their employment. Direct supervision guarantees that the new workers adapt well to the child care environment and their respective roles therein correctly manage situations they might encounter.
