Chapin Man Arrested for Shooting Incident in Irmo

IRMO, S.C. — A 20-year-old man from Chapin is now in jail following a shooting incident that took place earlier this month in the New Friarsgate Subdivision of Irmo. The incident occurred on August 3, 2024, and thankfully, no injuries were reported despite the extensive damage caused by gunfire.

Shooting Details

According to reports from the Irmo Police Department, officers responded to a call about gunfire in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, they found that two homes and one vehicle had been hit by bullets. Fortunately, there were no injuries to any residents or bystanders during this frightening event.

Charges Filed

The suspect, Maurice T. McQuire, was arrested on August 16, 2024, nearly two weeks after the shooting incident. He faces serious charges including four counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Following his arrest, McQuire was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where a judge denied him bond, keeping him in custody.

Police Response

Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale expressed relief that no one was harmed during the incident. He said, “We are very fortunate that nobody was hit during this incident. To commit this act in broad daylight in a neighborhood shows just how reckless and dangerous McQuire is. I am proud of the work our investigators put in to have McQuire jailed and thankful that his bond was denied.”

Community Safety

The shooting incident has raised concerns within the local community about safety and security. Neighbors in Irmo are understandably shaken by the thought of such violence occurring close to home. Local law enforcement has reassured residents that they are taking the matter seriously and are committed to ensuring public safety in the area.

Looking Ahead

As the investigation continues, community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. The Irmo Police Department is actively working to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of all residents.

The case against McQuire will move through the legal system in the coming weeks, and the community will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how it unfolds. It’s a sobering reminder of the importance of community cooperation with law enforcement to foster a safe environment for all.

Final Thoughts

This shooting incident serves as a call for action for communities to engage with their local police departments and be active participants in ensuring safety within their neighborhoods. The collaborative effort between law enforcement and residents is vital in preventing violence and maintaining a sense of security.
