Cayce Fire Department Receives Grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

Cayce Fire Department Receives Grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and the local Firehouse Subs restaurant in Cayce, SC have awarded the Cayce Fire Department a grant amounting to $32,067. Officials from the Cayce Fire Department revealed that the grant will be used to purchase 9 new sets of turnout gear, which is defined as a firefighter’s primary defense when managing various types of fires.

Significance of the Turnout Gear

Turnout gear is known to deteriorate rapidly, losing its protective qualities, especially with increased call volume and training schedules. Therefore, the need for new gear is a constant necessity. The objective of most fire departments is to issue two sets of gear to their firefighters. This is crucial because many materials in a burning building have carcinogenic properties. Having two sets allows a firefighter to wear one set while the other is being cleaned.

About Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was formed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The founders, Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, are former firefighters who traveled to Mississippi to provide meals to first responders and survivors. After they returned to Florida, they realized the importance of doing more, leading to the creation of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

Impact on the Cayce Fire Department

The generous grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation will significantly help equip the Cayce Fire Department’s brave men and women with necessary tools to keep the community safe. As a result, both firefighters and residents will benefit from the enhanced safety measures this grant will provide.
