Cayce Fire Department Receives Generous Grant From Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

Cayce, SC – July 15, 2024

The Cayce Fire Department is set to benefit from a significant financial boost, thanks to a grant totaling $32,067 from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The funding, which was awarded in collaboration with the local Firehouse Subs restaurant located in Cayce, will be used to purchase nine new sets of firefighting turnout gear, according to local fire department officials.

Investing in Essential Firefighter Equipment

Firefighter turnout gear forms the first line of defense for fire service crew members in the face of any fire. With the high demand on call volume and the rigorous training schedule of the department, such equipment can quickly become worn and lose its protective qualities. The grant will thus significantly enhance the Cayce Fire Department’s capability to respond effectively and safely to fires and other emergencies.

The department aims to provide two sets of turnout gear to their firefighters, a vital measure given that many materials in burning structures have carcinogenic properties. By owning two sets of gear, firefighters can use one set while the other is being cleaned, minimizing their exposure to potential health hazards.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation – A Commitment to Public Safety

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation was established in 2005 following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Driven by a vision to offer more comprehensive support to frontline responders and survivors, former firefighters and founders of Firehouse Subs, Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen initiated the foundation. The generous grant towards the Cayce Fire Department is among the recent milestones in the foundation’s unwavering commitment to enhancing public safety.
