In Cayce, South Carolina, excitement is buzzing in the air! Chief Herbert Blake has officially stepped into his role as the new police chief, and he is eager to make a difference in the community. With his vast experience and deep roots in law enforcement, residents are optimistic about the future under his leadership.
This week marked the beginning of Chief Blake’s journey in this role, and he has wasted no time getting acquainted with his new surroundings. “I’ve been busy having a lot of meetings, and there are many more to come,” he shared during a press conference. His first priority? To listen to the voices of the citizens. Chief Blake plans to hold listening sessions in all districts alongside their district councilmen. These sessions will be a platform for residents to express their concerns and priorities as the department looks to enhance safety in Cayce.
The new chief is no stranger to policing. He brings over two decades of law enforcement experience to Cayce, having previously served as the Chief Deputy of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office in Asheville, North Carolina. His journey in law enforcement began in Ridgeland, South Carolina, where he started as a police officer.
Blake’s credibility as a leader shines through his impressive resume. He was the police chief of the Hendersonville Police Department for 13 years and also served as police chief in Loris for seven years. He holds a Master’s Degree in Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. His advanced training includes prestigious programs such as the School of Executive Leadership at the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration and the Police Executive Development Program at Penn State University.
Chief Blake’s strategy emphasizes community engagement. During the press conference, he expressed, “Hearing from our citizens is crucial. They know their communities best, and I want to prioritize their feedback as we move forward.” This approach is welcomed by many residents who feel that open communication can foster trust between law enforcement and the community.
Describing Chief Blake as a standout candidate, Cayce Interim City Manager Jim Crosland expressed his enthusiasm saying, “We’re excited about our incoming Chief. His experience and reputation as a leader in professional policing across North and South Carolina made him a perfect fit for our community.” Crosland believes that Blake’s leadership will greatly benefit the police department and the citizens of Cayce.
Beyond his impressive career, Chief Blake is first and foremost a family man. He and his wife Linda have been happily married for 37 years and are proud parents to five grown children and six grandchildren. His commitment to family parallels his commitment to serving and protecting the community, and many locals see this personal touch as a reason to trust his leadership.
As Chief Blake embarks on this exciting chapter in Cayce, there’s a sense of hope and anticipation in the community.
