Carlsbad, Calif. – No. 3 Gamecocks Remain 20th at NCAA Championship

The University of South Carolina’s Women’s Golf team, ranked third in the nation, has maintained their 20th position at the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California. Despite a valiant effort, the Gamecocks are currently 17-over through 36 holes, landing them six shots behind the top-15 cutline for the upcoming third round of play. In the second round, the team shot 297 (+9), with junior All-American Louise Rydqvist, freshman Vairana Heck, and freshman Maylis Lamoure each contributing solid scores of 73 (+1).

Individual Performances

Rydqvist showcased a steady game throughout the day and finally secured a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. Heck and Lamoure both tallied two birdies each, with Lamoure, in her NCAA Championship debut, standing a chance to break into the top-20 just three shots back. Rydqvist, currently inside the top-20, is trailing six shots behind Adela Cernousek of Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand closed with a score of 78 (+6), and Senior Sophia Burnett, who replaced All-American Hannah Darling, finished with a score of 80 (+8).

Next Steps

South Carolina will be in action tomorrow, paired with Michigan State and Oregon State for the third round of stroke play at the NCAA Championship. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat, with the first player teeing off at 3:22 p.m. (ET) from hole ten. The top-15 teams after the third round will advance to the medal round on Monday, along with the top three individuals from non-advancing teams.

Current Standings

As of now, the leaderboard shows Texas A&M in the lead, followed by Stanford and Clemson. The Gamecocks will continue to battle it out in the championship, striving to climb higher in the rankings and secure a spot among the top finishers.
