Big news is brewing in Lexington County as a Canadian beverage manufacturer has its sights set on opening a brand-new facility that promises to sprinkle nearly $100 million into the local economy and create almost 100 new jobs. Yes, you heard that right! The company, known as Cardiff Products, specializes in the increasingly popular world of plant-based drinks and is giddy about planting roots in our community.
Cardiff Products is currently waiting on the final green light from the county council. During a recent meeting, the council members voted unanimously to approve the project on its second reading, which is a huge step forward. They’ll have one more vote before it all becomes official, but spirits are high! “We are very excited about the potential of this company coming to Lexington County,” said Beth Carrigg, the chairwoman of the county council. Who wouldn’t be thrilled with such promising news?
If everything goes smoothly—and we certainly hope it does—Cardiff is set to invest a minimum of $99.6 million into constructing their manufacturing plant at the county-owned Saxe Gotha Industrial Park. This site is a bustling, 700-acre area that’s already home to well-known companies like Nephron Pharmaceuticals and an Amazon fulfillment center. Sounds like a great neighborhood!
According to the company, the deal will bring at least 94 jobs to Lexington County over a five-year period. This is exciting not just because it enhances job opportunities, but also because it adds to Lexington’s already impressive manufacturing sector, which stands as the third largest industry in the area—right behind healthcare and retail.
To sweeten the pot, the county is rolling out some enticing incentives to make Cardiff feel right at home. These include property tax breaks and an annual $500,000 tax credit for two decades. That’s quite the welcome wagon, don’t you think? It’s a win-win for both the county and the company, as it secures jobs and stimulates the local economy.
Stew Cardiff, the company president, expressed his enthusiasm during the council meeting, stating, “This new facility represents an important milestone in our growth and reflects our commitment to supporting the communities where we do business.” More than just moving in, Cardiff is eager to be a contributing member of the community, which is always a lovely sentiment.
For those who love to stay ahead of the trend, this facility will mark Cardiff’s expansion into the plant-based drink market, a shift they began in 2021. Notably, this will be at least the second plant of its kind in the U.S., with the first located just outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas. So, Lexington might soon become a hotspot for nutritious and delicious plant-based beverages!
As Lexington County continues to develop its business landscape, bringing in companies like Cardiff Products is a sign that the future looks bright. With jobs coming in, investments on the rise, and tasty, plant-based beverages on the horizon, it’s a fantastic time to be a resident in our beautiful county. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the final vote seals the deal and welcomes Cardiff Products with open arms!
