Exciting New Boutique Hotel Breaks Ground in Columbia, Revitalizing Historic Fire Station

Exciting New Boutique Hotel Coming to Columbia!

Columbia is buzzing with excitement as the Florence-based hospitality organization, Raines, has officially broken ground on a brand new boutique hotel! This isn’t just any hotel; it’s going to breathe new life into the former Columbia Central Fire Station, making it a perfect blend of history and modernity.

A Look at The Shepherd Hotel Columbia Vista

Named The Shepherd Hotel Columbia Vista, this project is set to become the second hotel under the Shepherd brand in South Carolina, with the first making waves in downtown Clemson since its opening in September 2022. The hotel, located at 1001 Senate St. in the heart of The Vista district, is expected to welcome guests in the fall of 2025.

The design and architecture are crafted by the talented folks at Garvin Design Group, and the construction is being managed by Mashburn Construction. As guests step into this boutique hotel, they will discover 59 guest rooms, alongside modern amenities such as a fitness center, a lounge, a board room, and even valet parking!

Honoring History while Embracing New Opportunities

This project isn’t just about creating another spot for travelers; it’s also deeply committed to the local community. The Shepherd Hotel is inspired by founder Rick Hayduk‘s personal journey as a father to two children with Down Syndrome. This unique hotel model is aimed at providing job opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities, partnering with local educational programs to ensure these young adults gain valuable skills and experience.

The Shepherd Hotel Columbia Vista plans to collaborate with the University of South Carolina’s CarolinaLIFE program, similar to its successful partnership with ClemsonLIFE. This initiative is expected to provide students with the opportunity to emerge confidently into the hospitality industry.

Delicious Treats and Local Flavors Await!

Guests can look forward to enjoying delightful dishes as the hotel’s food and beverage program will be led by none other than Kevin Johnson, a James Beard nominee and a fellow University of South Carolina alum. The on-site restaurant will cater to both locals and guests, offering a mouth-watering selection of small plates, craft cocktails, and a fantastic range of beers and wines.

A Vision for the Future

This project is not just a cute boutique hotel; it represents a real commitment to sustainable development, and a heartfelt nod to historic preservation. According to Lee Mashburn, the president of Mashburn Construction, they are thrilled to contribute to the revitalization of this iconic building while delivering exceptional hospitality spaces.

As the hotel sets to open just blocks away from Mashburn’s corporate headquarters, it brings a sense of pride and excitement for everyone involved. “We’re blending our passion for historic preservation with our commitment to hospitality in a wonderful way,” Mashburn stated.

What’s Next for Columbia?

As Columbia continues to grow and evolve, developments like The Shepherd Hotel Columbia Vista are setting the stage for a vibrant community that values both its rich history and future opportunities. It’s more than just a place to stay; it’s a place that offers hope, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging for many.

In conclusion, Columbia is about to embrace an exciting new chapter. With the innovative ideas behind The Shepherd Hotel, there’s no doubt this unique venue will serve as a gem in the area. Let’s keep our eyes peeled for more updates as the construction progresses and as the doors open to welcome guests in just a couple of years!

Stay tuned for more news about Columbia and its blooming hospitality scene!
