Irmo, SC: The community of Irmo is anticipating a significant event this coming weekend with the Friends of the Irmo Branch Library scheduling a large-scale book donation for Saturday, June 8. This generous initiative is set to take place between 9 a.m. and noon, and it invites everyone in the community to participate.
Locally situated at 6251 St. Andrews Road, the Irmo Branch Library has made donating easy for everyone. Donors are encouraged to bring their donations to the library’s Mungo Room or curbside at the side entrance, where volunteers from Friends will be on standby to assist with the unloading of books.
While the library welcomes a wide range of books, there are several particular items that won’t be accepted for reasons of quality control and storage limitations. The library has kindly asked that no CDs, VHS tapes, magazines or journals, encyclopedias, dictionaries, textbooks over five years old, travel and computer books older than three years, Readers Digest condensed books, or items that are moldy, damaged or ripped be included in the donations. The library also reserves the right to reject donations that they can’t use.
It is important to note that donations can only be dropped off at the designated times. This rule is due to storage constraints and the library’s desire to manage and sort through the contributions effectively. Donors are kindly asked not to leave their donations at any other time.
All donated books will find their new purpose either in the Friends Book Store located inside the library or in the bi-annual Friends Book Sale. The Friends of the Irmo Branch Library, a non-profit volunteer organization, implements this donation drive as part of their efforts to fund and support the operations of the library.
If individuals need further information about the book donation drive or have any inquiries, they can directly communicate with the Friends of the Irmo Branch Library through their email, friends.irmobranchlibrary@gmail.com. This summer book donation event serves as a reminder of the value and importance of books in the community and the role of the library in promoting education and literacy.
