BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – Hope and excitement fill the air as a team of baseball enthusiasts, aged 7 to 8 years, make their last-minute preparations to make their dream of playing in the Diamond Youth Baseball World Series come true. This grand event is slated to start later this week in Orangeburg and will feature all-star teams from 11 Southeast states plus the host team.
On Wednesday, the 12 triumphant players representing the Blythewood All Star team held their final practice session before competing in the much-anticipated 2024 Diamond Youth Baseball World Series in Orangeburg.
“For two years these boys have been diligently working to get to this point. Their journey began when they finished second in the state two years back, right here in Orangeburg. The ultimate goal this year was to top the state rankings and get a chance to play for the World Series,” said the enthusiastic and proud head coach for the Blythewood All Stars, Dustin Branham.
Feeling the temperature rise and the adrenaline rush, the players emphasized their excitement and jitters as they head into the tournament. “I’m excited for my teammates and me for having this once-in-a-lifetime experience. I look up to Ken Griffey Jr. and I’m thrilled to play and represent South Carolina in this prestigious tournament.”
As the tournament inches closer, the All Stars’ main message goes beyond just clinching the title. It echoes the essence of sportsmanship – to enjoy the game and have fun. “Seize the moment. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime possibility. You don’t know if you’ll ever get back. We try to inspire them to enjoy and hopefully bring home the World Series for Blythewood,” Branham encourages.
Blythewood’s commencement game is slated to begin at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Orangeburg Recreational Complex on North Road.
