Second round action will resume Sunday morning; three Carolina players inside top-15 within striking distance of lead
AUGUSTA, Ga. – No. 5 South Carolina sits second at the Valspar Augusta Invitational midway through the second round on Friday. With bad weather moving in Saturday, play will resume Sunday morning with the third round to follow shortly after the conclusion of round two. The Gamecocks are 10-under, four shots behind No. 14 Ole Miss, with players just starting the back nine at Forest Hills Golf Club.
A trio of players sit inside the top-15 led by junior All-American Hannah Darling at 4-under. Freshman Vairana Heck and sophomore Mia Sandtorv Lussand are T-11th at 3-under. Junior All-American Louise Rydqvist is even for the tournament and freshman Maylis Lamoure is 6-over.
Darling and Sandtorv Lussand each led the Gamecocks in round one with 2-under 70s. Darling made five birdies and Sandtorv Lussand had four red numbers on her scorecard. Heck shot 71 (-1) with five birdies and Rydqvist shot 72 (E) with three birdies to round out Carolina’s counting four in round one. Freshman Maylis Lamoure and senior Sophia Burnett, who is playing as an individual this week, each shot 74 (+2) in round one.
A trio of players sit tied for the lead at 7-under. Seventeen players overall, including three Gamecocks, sit at 3-under or better. Live scoring will be available again Sunday morning via Golfstat when play resumes.
