Melinauskas was not the only athlete to shine in the Midlands recently. Keira Frye from Batesburg-Leesville also had a standout performance, winning both shot put and discus events during the Class 2A District 2 state qualifier. Her dual victories reinforce her status as a formidable athlete in track and field.
Freshman Katherine Goff of Ben Lippen achieved significant success at bat, recording 11 hits in 15 at-bats, which included five doubles and seven runs batted in for the week. Meanwhile, Blythewood’s Keeley Hughes exhibited consistency by achieving a 6-for-10 batting average in three playoff games, punctuated by two doubles and two RBIs.
White Knoll’s Cheyenne Love showcased her sprinting prowess by winning both the 200 and 400 meters at the Class 5A Division II Mid-State state qualifier, further contributing to the vibrant spring sports scene in the region.

North Central’s Addie Bittner pitched five shutout innings and excelled at the plate, going 4-for-7 with an RBI in two games. Tamara Steward from Gray Collegiate also shone brightly, clinching multiple victories in her events, including the long jump at the Class 4A track and field championship
Others making their mark include Kat Haigler from Chapin, who scored three goals in two matches to help her team reach the Class 5A Division II state championship, and Miller Martin from Saluda, who pitched two shutouts while striking out 14 batters over 14 innings during the district championship.
Aminah Rhone of Blythewood won the 400 meters and ranked third in the 100 meters at the Class 5A Division I championship, rounding out a week of impressive performances from various athletes across the Midlands region.
