In an exciting development, the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC) and USAngling have just announced their latest initiative: “Youth Angling Day,” slated for Thursday, September 26. This event, which will take place at Gibson Pond Park in Lexington, SC, is set to kickstart the 2024 Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship, a three-day, world-class competition on Lake Murray.
Youth Angling Day is an inclusive event, free for children aged between 4-18 of all abilities. The event aims to offer a unique opportunity for the younger generation to explore the multifaceted world of fishing. The International Game Fish Association’s (IGFA) Passport to Fishing Program will provide enriching, hands-on education during the occasion. Participants can look forward to learning directly from USAngling athletes, coaches, and ambassadors who will be sharing their extensive knowledge, skills, and love for the sport.
Vickie Davis, Senior VP of Funding and Events at CCLMC, expressed her enthusiasm about this novel initiative: “We’re thrilled to bring Youth Angling Day to Gibson Pond Park. This is a fantastic opportunity for kids of all abilities to dive into the world of fishing, learn from the pros, and enjoy a day of fun and education,” she said.
The championship, taking place from September 27-29 on the scenic waters of Lake Murray, will see elite kayak anglers from across the globe take the stage. Competitors from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines, Venezuela will showcase their talent at this prestigious event. The Pan American nations will compete for the 3rd Pan American Kayak Fishing Championship title, while other international participants will compete for the USAngling Challenge Cup.
The United States Angling Confederation, or USAngling, is a 501c3 charitable organization. It provides funding and resource support to USA fishing teams worldwide, shares a love of competitive angling with America’s youth, supports conservation activities, and empowers local community angling groups.
