In the early hours on Tuesday, a tragic accident on I-20 near Batesburg claimed the life of a 28-year-old Alabama man. The victim, identified as Emmanuel D. Jones of Montgomery, was driving westbound when, around mile marker 35, he experienced a tire blowout, causing his 2005 Kenworth semi-truck to veer off the road and crash into the tree line.
According to the preliminary investigation by Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables, Emmanuel D. Jones was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene and his body will be autopsied later in Newberry to determine the exact cause of death.
The fatal accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Local authorities quickly responded to the scene, however, the severity of the crash and subsequent injuries were extreme. Jones was the only occupant of the semi-truck at the time of the accident.
Courtesy of HERE News Network, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office are jointly probing into the matter. The primary focus of the investigation is the truck’s tire blowout. Interrogating whether the incident was due to poor vehicle maintenance, a defective tire, or uncontrollable road conditions will be crucial.
In related news, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office recently released a public advisory cautioning people about ongoing phone scams in the area. This has underscored the importance of public awareness to ensure safety and security.
The unfortunate demise of Emmanuel D. Jones has triggered heartfelt condolences among friends and family. Locals who knew him spoke about his passion for his work as a truck driver and his kind nature. His sudden departure brings sadness to both his personal and professional communities.
