AC restored at Columbia Senior Living Facility, Residents Move Back In

Fourth of July Brings Relief for Columbia Senior Residents

Columbia, S.C. – Senior residents of a Columbia, South Carolina living facility welcomed a breath of fresh air as their air conditioning was restored, and they began to move back into their apartments on the Fourth of July. This relief came after several grueling days without air conditioning due to system failure.

The failed cooling system of Christopher Towers, a senior living high-rise facility on Devine Street, was officially up and running again, as announced by the management company Multifamily Select Inc. on Independence Day. Responding to the crisis, a mobile chiller was secured from an outside vendor and connected on Wednesday evening, setting in motion the cooling down of the building.

Efforts to Keep Residents Cool

Without air conditioning for days during the heat of summer, nearly 95 out of the almost 250 senior residents were temporarily relocated to nearby hotels for respite. Multifamily Select Inc. covered these expenses, with Sejwad Hospitality assisting the relocation process. As the building’s temperature began to drop, the residents have since started to move back into their homes. Matthew Neely, Vice President of Multifamily Select Inc., confirmed this development, adding to the joy of the Independence day celebrations.

Further Actions and Precautions

The need for robust, well-maintained air conditioning systems in senior living facilities is paramount, considering that older adults are more susceptible to the health risks posed by extreme heat. The management of Christopher Towers is now urged to invest in the regular upkeep and rapid issue response mechanisms to prevent such incidents in the future. Attention is necessary not only for the comfort of residents but, more importantly, for their health and safety.

While the swift response and subsequent restoration of the cooling system is commendable, there’s a case to be made for proactive and regular checks on such crucial infrastructure. This incident serves as a stern reminder to all senior living facilities to rise to the occasion and ensure that they are adequately equipped and prepared to swiftly deal with similar situations. With seniors being especially vulnerable to changes in temperature, these scenarios should be considered and prepared for, not just reacted to.

Despite the challenging days without air conditioning, the residents of Christopher Towers celebrated a very special Independence Day this year – a return to their homes with the comfort and wellbeing they deserve.
