COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Midlands area is in for a spirited celebration as registration for the inaugural 803 Day activities opens to include an array of exciting events. Slated to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, the 803 Day festivities are a brainchild of the Columbia community aimed at celebrating the spirit of unity and pride.
The idea behind 803 Day is tied with the area code of the region, cleverly coinciding with the event date, 8/03. The much-anticipated day-long festival will encompass activities including a 5K Run/Walk, a citywide scavenger hunt, group photo ops, special promotions priced at $8.03, and a free festival.
-> The day will kick off with an 8 AM 803 Day 5K Run/Walk through the scenic Forest Acres, suitable for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Cola Rose Shower, an organization advocating for feminine care issues in the Greater Columbia area.
-> At 11 AM, an exclusive photo session will take place at the iconic South Carolina State House where attendees can capture their 803 Day memories.
-> A free festival will follow at 12 noon in the historic Robert Mills House & Gardens, promising an eclectic mix of live music, interactive art installations, food trucks, and family-friendly activities. VIP access is available with additional perks and refreshments.
-> An engaging citywide scavenger hunt powered by the Soda City Certified app and $8.03 promotions across local businesses further add intrigue to the day’s activities.
“The 803 Day will be an experience unlike any other, symbolizing a vibrant spirit of unity and pride in the heart of our state,” said Khali Gallman, the event organizer. He highlighted the unique nature of the celebration compared to similar days celebrated in other major cities like Atlanta and Miami.
The local community, organizations, businesses, and sponsors all play a significant role in bringing the 803 Day to life. All are invited to participate in the celebrations and become a part of the area’s history.
Gallman extended his gratitude to the numerous sponsors such as Grace Outdoor, Yip Premier Real Estate, Hall’s Chophouse of Columbia, and others who have backed the event generously.
Registration for all activities is now open at www.803day.org. Options to volunteer, sponsor, or provide in-kind donations for the event are also available. Follow @803DaySC on Facebook/Instagram for more updates.
