West Columbia Rallies Behind Maurice’s Piggie Park BBQ After Devastating Fire

West Columbia, S.C. – This past week has been a whirlwind for the folks at Maurice’s Piggie Park BBQ. Just one week after their headquarters was nearly lost to a 3-alarm fire, the beloved BBQ joint has officially reopened some of its locations, bringing a sense of relief and joy to their loyal customers. The aroma of smoked meats filled the air once again as three of their stores welcomed diners.

Resilience in the Face of Adversity

Loyd Bessinger, President and Co-Owner of Maurice’s, shared the challenges they’ve faced in the aftermath of the fire. “We’ve had to rent some smokers to continue smoking our meats and even rented some refrigerated trucks for storage,” Bessinger explained. Despite the hurdles, the team has been pulling together to keep the BBQ dreams alive. “Our staff has been working tirelessly to serve our faithful customers. We love this community!”

After assessing the damage over the past week, Bessinger decided it was time to open the doors at three of their locations. One of those spots is conveniently located right next door to where the fire occurred. “We were happy to see that everyone is safe and sound,” Bessinger said with a smile.

Looking Ahead

While it seems like the worst is behind them, Bessinger mentioned that the road to full recovery is still ahead. They have begun looking into other kitchen spaces where BBQ can be prepped to ensure they keep providing customers with their mouthwatering dishes. “We’ve rented a large kitchen where we’ll do much of our food prep starting next week,” he revealed. “We are excited to get back to the day-to-day details of smoking barbecue.”

Customers Share Their Support

West Columbia residents have expressed their delight at the quick turnaround. Justin Crolley, a fan of the BBQ, was ecstatic to see the location on Charleston Highway back in business. “We were all pretty happy when we heard the news that this spot was reopening. Even with a limited menu, we couldn’t tell, and everything we usually order is available!” he exclaims.

Another local, Tony Moultrie, who is a regular, explained how important it is to keep these locations open for the sake of the employees. “There are fifty-two people working here. With the holidays around the corner, it’s critical for them to have income, and I’m glad to see them back on their feet.” The community is rallying behind Maurice’s, proving yet again how important this establishment is to the local fabric.

A Call for Community Support

Bessinger understands that while they’re navigating through this crisis, community support can accelerate their recovery. He encourages everyone to buy their famous BBQ sauce and other merchandise to help out during this time. “Every bit helps us get back to normal more quickly!”

Investigation Still Ongoing

The fire that impacted Maurice’s remains under investigation as WIS reached out to the West Columbia Fire Department for updates. Just what sparked such a huge blaze is still a mystery, but Bessinger and his team are committed to getting back to their passion of serving great BBQ.

In the meantime, patrons are excited to have their favorite BBQ joint back. With the spirit of resilience and community support, Maurice’s Piggie Park BBQ is proving that even after adversity, they can rise stronger. So, if you’re in the mood for some comfort food, why not stop by and show your support? Here’s to BBQ and good times once again!
