The much-anticipated 2024 fall sports season has officially begun in Vermont, with a flurry of exciting games and close competitions across various sports including soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running.
This week saw some thrilling soccer match-ups. In a close contest, Merrimack edged out Vermont with a score of 3-2. Sage Babey, Rachel Bjorgan, and Chloe Goofers each netted a goal for Merrimack, while Vermont received goals from Natalie Zarcone and Lara Beecher.
In another exciting match, Vermont faced St. Thomas, ending in a dramatic 5-5 tie, but Vermont emerged victorious in the shootout, winning 1-0. However, they later fell to New Hampshire 3-2 in overtime, with Lotte Kanters and Sophia Drees scoring for Vermont.
Within the field hockey arena, Harwood managed to secure a 2-1 win over Rice, maintaining their lead with key performances from Roanha Chalmers and Briley Rutledge.
In the volleyball circuit, Windsor dominated White River Valley with a score of 6-0, thanks to an incredible four-goal performance from Audrey Rupp.
Furthermore, Caledonia United took down Oxbow with a decisive 4-1 score. Hazel Abetti shone with one goal and two assists for Caledonia United.
