Vermont High School Fall Sports Season Kicks Off
As the fall sports season heats up in Vermont, teams across the state are battling it out in soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running. The excitement is palpable as players showcase their skills on the field and court.
In recent action, the Maine Black Bears edged past Vermont with a tight score of 3-2. Vermont initially took a 2-0 lead thanks to an own goal from Maine in the 61st minute. However, Maine’s Jordane Pinette scored the winner in the 88th minute, turning the game around for her team, while Vermont’s Aubrey Bough contributed with one goal.
On a brighter note for Vermont, the Catamounts had a strong showing against Stonehill, winning 5-0. Maddie Priestly led the charge with two goals, while Ellie Reed recorded her first career multi-point game, scoring one goal and adding an assist.
Switching to another exciting match, Mount Mansfield dominated Burlington 6-1, with standout performances from Abby Hussey and Aly Dorman, both scoring twice. Burlington’s lone goal came from Lily McArthur.
Over in field hockey, Champlain Valley delivered a solid performance, blanking Essex 3-0 with goals from players including Emery Thompson and Penny Webster. The defense stood strong, limiting Essex to only three penalty corners throughout the match.
In volleyball, Burlington won a close match against Mount Mansfield, with set scores of 25-14, 11-25, 25-20, and 25-20, showcasing their resilience and teamwork.
