A Week Brimming With Musical and Community Events

Lexington County, known for its vibrant arts and music scene, promises a lively week starting from July 11. The Nashville Nights concert series is geared up to introduce country singer/songwriter Lauren Jenkins, who has shared the stage with Lady A and LeAnn Rimes among others, to Lexington. Her free concert will continue till 9:30 p.m. at Steel Hands Brewing, with a local opening act initiating the show at 6 p.m.

Yet more music awaits at Bill’s Music Shop where The New Primitive will play a mix of classic bluegrass and country starting from 8 p.m. This one-hour concert demands an admission fee of $15.

In a continuation of the musical spree, local country music artist Carter Lybrand, returns to delight his audience after his glittering performance at the Lexington Peach Festival. This free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Krafty Draft Brew Pub.

Other Events in the Pipeline

The week is not just about music alone. The Icehouse Amphitheater will host The Market at Icehouse, where fresh produce, unique gifts, food and live music will create an amazing atmosphere to browse and shop. For the history enthusiasts, a Native American Lifeways walking tour at 12,000 History Park is sure to provide interesting insights into the strategic role of Native Americans in the economy and welfare of the Carolina Colony.

The Lexington Main Library is also all set to present another unique edition of the “Historically Speaking” lecture series, themed on the history of alcohol in Lexington County – both legal and otherwise. And for those wanting to end the day on a lighter, enjoyable note, the Gaston Branch library is hosting a screening of the classic family film The Sandlot.

Outdoor Fun Activities

Outdoor enthusiasts can participate in the Avery Davis Memorial Bass Fishing Tournament at Dreher Island State Park, with a chance to win a $1000 first prize award. An accompanying free fish camp for kids is also part of this event.

The Meeting Street Artisan Night Market at Interactive Arts Park is another destination attracting local vendors for shopping. Visitors can also interact with the unique sculptures throughout the park and continue shopping and dining at State and Meeting Streets, and Court Avenue.

Not Just Lexington County…

Activities outside the county lines include a gentle Morning Yoga session for wellness enthusiasts at Boyd Plaza, Columbia Museum of Art. The SC State Museum is set for a Friday Night Laser Lights show with lasers choreographed to iconic music and a cash bar and food trucks for refreshments.

The Aiken County Farmer’s Market is also expected to draw in crowds, with vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods and handmade crafts. While you’re at it, give a listen to local rockers George Fetner & The Strays at New Brookland Tavern or sit down for a unique musical experience at “A Tribute to Taylor Swift” concert by the Listeso String Quartet at Junction 800.

As the list suggests, Lexington County presents a host of exciting events and activities for its residents and visitors this week and over the weekend. Whatever your preference, there is surely something for everyone to enjoy.
