One of the most awaited events this weekend is the Taylor Boys Christmas Extravaganza. This beloved concert is celebrating its 19th year and promises to be an evening filled with joy, music, and most importantly, community spirit! This year, the concert is particularly special as it’s benefitting Toby’s Place, which is part of the Oliver Gospel Mission and has been a beacon of hope for Columbia-area single women and mothers facing poverty or homelessness.
A Heartfelt Cause
So far, the Taylor Boys have raised over $38,000 for Toby’s Place through their concerts, a remarkable feat! According to Nicholas Charalambous, the Donor Relations Officer at Oliver Gospel Mission, “We rely heavily on the generosity of our community to provide support for the women and children at Toby’s Place, and the Taylor Boys Christmas Extravaganza is a key source of that support.”
Toby’s Place offers a refuge to over 80 women and 100 children each year, providing them with not just shelter, but also essential services like meals, counseling, and life-skills training. In 2023 alone, they delivered nearly 13,000 nights of program shelters, enriching the lives of many vulnerable residents.
Steve Taylor Shares His Holiday Spirit
For Steve Taylor, a local real estate and singing sensation, this concert is deeply personal. “Having lived in Columbia nearly all of my life, this community means a lot to me and my entire family,” Taylor shared enthusiastically. “We’ve always come together to play music, sing, and have fun around the holidays. In the early 2000s we decided to try doing it in a way that let us give back to the community that has given so much to us.”
