South Carolina is building its football team’s future with the acquisition of highly coveted, three-star linebacker, Taeshawn Alston. Alston, born and bred in Henderson, North Carolina, and a rising star from Vance County High School, has chosen to commit to the South Carolina Gamecocks, boosting their 2025 class.
The 6-foot-4, 232-pound player offered his pledges to the Gamecocks, announcing his decision on his Instagram in a ceremony at his school, choosing the team over North Carolina, Rutgers, and Virginia Tech.
On3 lists Alston as an EDGE, but South Carolina’s head coach, Clayton White, has recruited him with the intent to utilize his skills in the linebacker position.
“I feel like their plan for me defensively is great,” Alston stated. “They want to use me like Micah Parsons. They want to move me. But I’ll still be playing at the linebacker position.”
The versatile athlete feels this could be a beneficial move considering his talent and ability. “They want to move me, put me on the edge some, get a couple of rushes in. And I feel that’s great because the ability and talent I’ve got, I feel like I can do both,” Alston said.
Reminiscing about his official visit to South Carolina, Alston mentioned that the Gamecocks’ coaches always treated him warmly, setting the bar high for his subsequent college visits. Committed to creating an encouraging and supportive atmosphere, the coaches even fostered relationships with current players.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Alston is a three-star prospect and ranks as the No. 602 overall prospect and No. 51 EDGE in the country. His significant presence has also led him to secure the 14th position among prospects in North Carolina.
Alston now adds to the increasing roster of linebacker’s on the Gamecocks’ team. He joins Blackville-Hilda’s three-star player, Jaquel Holman, and Buford’s three-star player, AJ Holloway, solidifying the Gamecocks’ defenses.
Following Cutter Woods’ switch from Wake Forest to the Gamecocks, Alston’s commitment to South Carolina marks the 16th commitment in their 2025 class and second in as many days. This dynamic news sends a wave of excitement through South Carolina supporters as they anticipate their team’s prospects in forthcoming matches.
