This week has been an exciting time for high school sports across various teams in Minnesota, with notable performances in basketball, gymnastics, skiing, and wrestling.
In boys’ basketball, Shakopee dominated Eastview with a score of 69-40, proving their strength on the court. In other matchups, Cretin-Derham Hall had a solid win over East Ridge, finishing 83-64. Mounds View narrowly defeated Roseville 60-54, while Park of Cottage Grove also pulled off a victory against Irondale 62-51.
In the Metropolitan area, Anoka crushed Hill-Murray 72-39, and Minnehaha Academy outplayed St. Croix Lutheran 68-52. However, the closest game was between Two Rivers and St. Paul Como Park, ending in an 80-78 overtime thriller.
On the girls’ side, Two Rivers also secured a convincing win against Simley, with a score of 57-32. East Ridge managed to edge out Cretin-Derham Hall 61-57, while White Bear Lake defeated Woodbury 54-43.
In gymnastics, Central School triumphed over Johnson with a score of 114.675. Elllie Wohlever from Central stood out as the all-around winner with a score of 29.7.
For the Nordic skiing competitions held at Battle Creek Regional Park, St. Paul Central’s boys’ team took first place with a total of 479 points, while St. Paul Highland Park followed closely behind with 462. In the girls’ event, St. Paul Highland Park emerged victorious with 486 points, narrowly beating St. Paul Central 460. Hanna Koch from Highland Park was the medalist in the girls’ category, finishing the race in 8:01.
Wrestling matches were intense this week as Coon Rapids won a close match against Park Center, ending 32-31. Highland Park showcased strength by defeating Washington 58-16.
