The Flying Eagles, currently with a record of 5-2, have gained a reputation for their speedy players but have surprisingly shifted to a more powerful rushing game this season. They have a strong offensive line that supports a ground game complemented by occasional big passes. Spring Valley coach Brad Dingess observes, “It’s kind of a role reversal of what we used to do. We’re kind of familiar with it.”

On the other hand, the Timberwolves, with a 4-3 record, have ventured into a passing-heavy strategy, throwing the ball 153 times across their 373 plays this season. Despite not being known for their air raid in the past, Dingess acknowledges Woodrow Wilson’s evolution, saying, “They play ball control and seem to always hit a big pass play.”

Just last week, Woodrow Wilson had a chance to secure a win but fell short in a 14-7 loss to Princeton, missing a TD from the 1-yard line. Coach Chad Sarrett commented, “We left some points on the field… We had a touchdown called back.”

Spring Valley counters with their own arsenal of offensive weapons. Junior running back Miguel Cain has been impressive, boasting 771 yards and nine touchdowns on his carries thus far. Quarterback Liam McGuire has been effective in the air with 1,448 yards and 16 touchdowns under his belt. Wide receiver Jalyn Abercrombie has also made a mark with 567 yards and seven touchdowns.

As both teams strive for a better playoff position, with Woodrow Wilson ranked 10th in Class AAAA and Spring Valley 8th in Class AAA, this game could be crucial. The top 16 teams in each division will make the playoffs, with the first eight securing home-field advantage in the first round.

“It’s a big game for us,” Dingess said, highlighting the need for focus and discipline. “We need to limit stupid penalties.” The Timberwolves are coming off a commanding 56-26 win over Capital and are keen to keep their momentum going.
