South Carolina Stingrays Bolster Roster with Future Considerations Trades Ahead of Deadline

South Carolina Stingrays Makes Game-Changing Future Considerations Trades

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC

In a significant move to bolster their roster, South Carolina Stingrays have made two crucial trades before Thursday’s 5 p.m. future considerations deadline. The team announced that they’d acquire forward Ben Hawerchuk from the Cincinnati Cyclones and send forward Marko Reifenberger to Norfolk.

Ben Hawerchuk Joins the Stingrays

South Carolina’s first move was to acquire forward Ben Hawerchuk from the Cincinnati Cyclones, completing the November 25, 2023, trade for Cole Fraser. Hawerchuk, aged 26, played in seven games for the Cyclones during the last season. He had eight points, including two goals and six assists during this period. Originally from St. Louis, MO, Hawerchuk has so far skated in 104 career ECHL career matches and amassed 52 points (25 goals, 27 assists).

Marko Reifenberger Moves to Norfolk

In a reciprocal arrangement, Norfolk procured forward Marko Reifenberger from the Stingrays, thereby completing the November 25, 2023, trade for Josh Thrower. Having played 13 games for South Carolina in the last season, Reifenberger amassed four points – three through goals and one assist. Before joining the Stingrays, Reifenberger graduated from a four-year college hockey stint at Mercyhurst University where he earned 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) in 122 NCAA matches.

Upcoming Games

With these trades in place, the Stingrays seem ready for their upcoming home games. The next game sees the Savannah Ghost Pirates visit the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, October 19th, with the puck dropping at 6:05 PM EDT.

Following this, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits will play against the Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, October 26th and Wednesday, October 30th. The puck drops at 6:05 PM and 7:05 PM EDT respectively.
