South Carolina Softball Coach Beverly Smith Fired After 14 Seasons

South Carolina softball coach Beverly Smith was fired Saturday after 14 seasons with the Gamecocks. Smith is the second-winningest coach in program history, going 461-323 overall. In SEC play, however, she was 102-219. This season, South Carolina went 36-24 overall, 8-16 in the conference and lost in the Durham Regional.
Impressive Career
Smith led the Gamecocks to nine postseason appearances, including seven straight, with one super regional trip in 2018. Before her time at South Carolina, she held coaching positions at North Carolina and Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas.
Professional Experience
In 1997, Smith had a brief coaching stint in the professional league as an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay FireStix. Her wealth of experience and dedication to the sport have made her a respected figure in the softball community.
Coaching Changes at South Carolina
South Carolina is currently looking for a baseball coach as well, after Mark Kingston was fired following seven seasons. The university is on the hunt for new leadership to take both the softball and baseball programs to greater heights.
