South Carolina Gamecocks Baseball Secures One-Run Victory over North Carolina
The University of South Carolina baseball team clinched a thrilling 2-1 victory against No. 13 North Carolina in a tight matchup on Tuesday night at Truist Field. Dylan Brewer led the charge for the Gamecocks with an impressive 3-for-4 at-bat, including a crucial go-ahead double in the eighth inning. His hit brought Talmadge LeCroy home, breaking the tie and propelling Carolina to victory.
Brewer’s standout performance was supported by Ethan Petry and Parker Noland, who each contributed two hits to the team’s total of 10 hits for the night. Gavin Casas also played a pivotal role, driving in Carolina’s first run in the third inning with an RBI groundout.
The Gamecock pitching staff put on a strong showing, limiting North Carolina to just six hits and one run. Roman Kimball and Dylan Eskew played key roles on the mound, with Kimball striking out five batters in 2.2 innings and Eskew delivering a solid 3.1 innings without allowing a run.
North Carolina managed to tie the game in the seventh inning with a double from Colby Wilkerson, but Carolina quickly responded in the eighth inning to secure the win.
Carolina has now emerged victorious in four of the last five matchups against the Tar Heels. The Gamecocks dealt UNC’s Matthew Matthijs, the NCAA’s top pitcher with 11 wins, his second defeat of the season. Additionally, Carolina’s strong defensive play was evident with three double plays executed throughout the game.
The Gamecocks will travel to Gainesville, Florida, for a three-game series against No. 24 Florida starting on Friday night. Fans can catch the action live on SEC Network Plus.
