Seton High School Claims State Championship in Volleyball

FAIRBORN, Ohio — Seton High School made history on Saturday night as they secured the state championship trophy after defeating Cleveland St. Joseph Academy with scores of 26-24, 25-16, 25-15. The match took place at Wright State University’s Nutter Center and brought great excitement to the Seton community.

The Saints showcased their impressive teamwork and skill, with standout performances from several players. Charley Moeddel, Callie Combs, and Nattie Slusher each recorded 10 kills during the championship match. Reagan Miller led the team with 21 assists, while Kirsten Kemper contributed with 13 assists. On defense, Grace Jones and Sakura Codling made significant contributions with 15 digs and 14 digs, respectively.

This victory marks the seventh state championship for Seton High School, who finished the season with an impressive record of 26-2. The program has previously won state titles in the years 2005, 1996, 1988, 1986, 1985, and 1984.

Seton had an incredible journey this season, finishing as the top-ranked team in the final Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Division I state poll. They also became the third team from Greater Cincinnati to win a state championship, joining St. Ursula (Division II) and Roger Bacon (Division IV).

In the semifinals, Seton defeated Pickerington North with scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-20 to advance to the final match.

This week marked the 50th annual Ohio High School Athletic Association girls volleyball state tournament, showcasing the long-standing tradition of excellence in the sport. The tournament has expanded over the years, and with the recent decision to add more divisions for girls volleyball, it continues to grow in popularity and competitiveness.
