Sedro Woolley Dominates in Crossover Match, Local Teams Gear Up for Playoffs

SEDRO WOOLLEY – In a stunning display of football prowess, the Sedro Woolley Cubs defeated the Mountlake Terrace Hawks 40-0 on Sunday, November 3, 2024, in the annual Wesco crossover matchups. This victory not only marked an impressive win for the Cubs but also ensured both teams a spot in the state round of 32 playoffs next week.

Sedro Woolley, now standing at a record of 7-2, will head to Central Valley for their upcoming playoff game. Meanwhile, Mountlake Terrace, with a record of 6-3, will take on Eastside Catholic at home. The Hawks will be looking to bounce back after this tough loss when they hit the field on Friday, November 8, at 7 p.m.

In other football action, Edmonds-Woodway took down Marysville Getchell 35-21, improving their record to 3-6, while the struggling Marysville team sits at 2-7. The Jackson Timberwolves had a remarkable game against Lynnwood, winning 71-7. Lynnwood remains winless with a record of 0-9 and is set to face Everett on the same date as the Hawks.

In final scores from Saturday, Stanwood soundly defeated Meadowdale with a score of 52-3, bringing their record to 5-4. Meadowdale, now at 3-6, will play Snohomish next week as well.

In girls soccer, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks faced Monroe during the opening round of the 3A District 1 tournament but fell short with a score of 2-1. Despite the loss, Ally Villalobos VanSlooten scored for Mountlake Terrace, assisted by Allison Mervin. The Hawks are now moving to the consolation bracket and will need to win two games in a row to keep their hopes alive for the state tournament. Their first elimination game is on Tuesday, November 5, at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Over in cross country, the Shorewood boys team shone bright at the District 1 Championships, scoring 27 points and qualifying for state. Mountlake Terrace and Meadowdale boys finished 6th and 10th, respectively. For the girls, Shorecrest placed first with 56 points while Mountlake Terrace secured fourth place with 123 points. The state championship for cross country is set for Saturday, November 9, at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

As local teams prepare for the playoffs, all eyes will be on Sedro Woolley and Mountlake Terrace to see how they perform in their upcoming games. Fans are excited for what’s next and will be cheering loudly for their teams.
