Lexington County School District 3 Opens for New School Year: Here’s What Parents Need To Know Before their Children are Back at School

Lexington County, S.C.

Officials at Lexington County School District 3 are all set and eager for the commencement of the 2024-2025 school session. Interestingly, Lexington County School District 3 is the first academic system in Midlands to declare the beginning of classes. It may appear to some that July 30 could be a bit premature for a schoolyear to start, however, this is due to the recent modifications in the academic calendar of the district.

The Highlighted Change

According to statements from the school district management, the restructured calendar has compressed the duration of summer holidays. Instead, the school will now have numerous breaks, or ‘intersessions’ as they are being referred to, scattered throughout the fall and spring durations. This academic year (2024-2025) is the second time that this revised calendar system is being implemented in the district.

A Quick Chat with District Executives

Our correspondents sat with Mackenzie Taylor, Director of Public Information for the district, and Matthew Velasquez, Principal of Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School, to discuss the new school year. During their conversation with our reporters, they had the opportunity to talk about what students and parents can expect in the new year starting tomorrow.

Construction Completed

Several infrastructure projects have been finalized for the new academic year, adding more value to the student’s learning environment. The Batesburg-Leesville High School now boasts a brand new competition gymnasium, which was wrapped up back in May 2024. Along with this, Batesburg-Leesville Primary School now houses a fresh cafeteria facility, which was completed in October 2023.
