Samsung Donates $10,000 to Newberry County Teachers for Amazon Wish Lists

Samsung CEO Surprises School Staff with Generous Donation

On a sunny Friday morning in Newberry County, South Carolina, school teachers and staff were in for a pleasant surprise. Samsung CEO Jeremy Lee walked into their back-to-school meeting carrying a giant check of $10,000. The funds are intended to fulfill teachers’ Amazon wish lists for their classrooms. The announcement was followed by applause and joyous expressions from the school staff who deeply appreciated this supportive gesture.

A Partnership Between Samsung and Newberry County

The initiative is not the first time Samsung has expressed its commitment to the local community. The global tech giant operates a home appliance plant in Newberry County, employing many parents and graduated students of the district. Over the years, the company has nurtured a thriving partnership with the county and its schools through various acts of community outreach.

“It is huge, it really highlights the partnership of Samsung with the school district of Newberry County and their commitment to making certain that our schools, students, and teachers have what they need to have a successful school year”, stated Alvin Pressley, the Superintendent of the district.

Annual Community Outreach and a Boost to the Education Sector

Every year, Samsung earmarks a portion of its operating budget for community outreach, focusing on schools, veterans, and teachers. This year, they decided to ensure the Newberry school district was well-prepared for the upcoming academic term.

Appreciation from the Teacher of the Year

Among the teachers, Brian Redd, the 29-year veteran of Newberry High School and recently crowned teacher of the year, expressed his gratitude with heartfelt words. “We don’t do this for the income, we do it for the outcome. Obviously with what they are doing here, the outcome is meaningful, and what they are willing to invest in our community is huge for our town, our schools, and for our communities,” he remarked.

Redd also emphasized that the generous donation from Samsung is not just pivotal for the teachers, but the ripple effects will be felt by the students and the community at large. “It’s not about me—it’s about the kids, the teachers, and what we are trying to do for the community,” Redd added.

Investing in the Future

Cognizant of the crucial role teachers play in shaping the next generation, Samsung’s CEO Jeremy Lee shed light on the rationale behind donating to the teachers. He stated, “Good teachers make good students—that’s my experience. So, supporting teachers is the best way to improve our students’ abilities”. The initiative indeed serves as an example of how corporations can invest in the future by uplifting the present.

The noble deed represents a tremendous boost not just for the Newberry County School district’s readiness for the new school year, but also strengthens Samsung’s relationships with the local communities it operates in.
