The beautiful Pebble Beach Golf Course where Russell Henley showcased his talents.
In Pebble Beach, PGA golfer Russell Henley has garnered attention not only for his impressive performance at the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am but also for establishing the Chapin Henley M.D. Scholarship Fund in honor of his late father. Dr. Chapin Henley, a respected physician who passed away in 2024, inspired Russell with his dedication to serving others. Through this fund, Russell aims to continue his father’s legacy while balancing life as a family man and professional golfer.
In the beautiful city of Pebble Beach, California, something special is happening in the world of golf. Russell Henley, a proud Georgian and a remarkable PGA Tour golfer, has been making headlines recently—not just for his stunning performance at the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he carded an impressive score of 8-under par 64 on the first day—but for his heartfelt tribute to his late father, Dr. Chapin Henley.
Russell is a four-time PGA Tour winner and a shining star in the world of professional golf. Yet behind every successful golfer, there’s usually a supportive family cheering them on. For Russell, that family includes his loving parents, Sally and the late Dr. Chapin Henley. Dr. Henley was not just any dad; he was a well-respected gynecologist and obstetrician who famously delivered over 5,000 babies during his career. He earned his education from Vanderbilt University, Emory University’s seminary, and the University of Florida. After hanging up his stethoscope in 2003, he dedicated his time to founding the Macon Volunteer Clinic, where he provided free medical care to those in need. His heart was as big as his accomplishments.
Sadly, Dr. Chapin Henley passed away in July 2024 at the age of 85 after a brave battle with leukemia and heart failure. The loss weighed heavily on Russell, who often described his father as his biggest fan. The bond they shared is one of those timeless father-son connections that is inspiring to everyone around them.
In a beautiful gesture of remembrance, Russell felt motivated to do something big to honor his father’s legacy. Thus, he established the Chapin Henley M.D. Scholarship Fund, aimed at providing support for post-secondary education for employees and dependents of Idle Hour Country Club. This initiative embodies his father’s dedication to serving others and ensures that his legacy continues to make a difference in the community.
Even with all of his achievements on the golf course, Russell is also a devoted family man. He and his wife, Teil Duncan, who is an accomplished artist, wallpaper designer, and author, were married on October 30, 2015. They now have three adorable children—Robert, born in 2018; Ruth, born in 2019; and Jane, born in 2022. While little Robert faced challenges at birth due to a swelling in his brain, he is thankfully doing much better now after receiving the necessary treatment.
The Henley family is very close-knit and often rallies around Russell during his tournament appearances. They have been seen at several prestigious events, including the iconic Augusta Nationals, truly embodying the spirit of support and togetherness. Family vacations are a joy for them; in 2022, they enjoyed a magical trip to Disney World, and they frequently indulge in outdoor adventures like swimming and enjoying the sunshine together.
As Russell Henley continues to make waves in the professional golf scene, he does so carrying the love and legacy of his father, Dr. Chapin Henley, in his heart. The scholarship fund is more than just a tribute; it is an ongoing mission to reflect the values of service, compassion, and community that were central to his father’s life. Russell is not just playing for trophies; he is playing for something much bigger—a purpose that extends beyond the greens.
