On Tuesday afternoon, deputies from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) responded to a report of gunfire near Hardscrabble Road, initiating an intensive search for the involved parties, which resulted in the recovery of shell casings but no victims or suspects located.
Columbia, South Carolina turned into a survival field when shots were fired on Mansfield Lane, off of Hardscrabble Road. With reports coming to them at around 3 pm, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department swiftly located to the scene, coming face to face with a neighborhood shocked by violence.
Upon their arrival at the 500 blocks of Mansfield Ln, deputies interacted with a number of residents who had witnessed the unfortunate event. A thorough investigation at the scene confirmed that two individuals had been involved in an altercation that escalated into a shooting between two houses. The authorities found shell casings at the scene, but no physical casualty was discovered. Indeed, one of the residential buildings had been hit by gunfire, but there were no gunshot victims. Further, the suspect or suspects involved in the incident were not located at the scene, prompting an ongoing investigation.
With a suspect still at large, the RCSD assured residents that the case remains open, with their team dedicated to finding the people involved. This act of violence disrupted the usually quiet neighborhood off Hardscrabble Road prompting a wave of concern among locals. As presently, no immediate danger has been identified, the community is expected to cooperate fully with the investigation.
This incident sends a shooting scare in Columbia, S.C and while the RCSD continues its intense investigative operations to bring about justice, the residents are expected to remain calm and assist with any information that could help in solving the case. The officials, on the other hand, will keep the residents informed of any new developments.
In a seemingly peaceful neighborhood at Columbia, such acts of violence are not common and have set an alarm. The bravery and swift action of the RCSD are commendable as they continue to ensure the safety of Columbia’s residents.
