Quarterfinals Showdown: Thrilling Results from Minnesota High School Football State Tournaments

In a thrilling weekend of high school sports in Minnesota, numerous teams took center stage in various tournaments and matches. The excitement kicked off with the CLASS 5A STATE TOURNAMENT, where Alexandria managed to edge out Armstrong with a score of 17-14. Elk River showcased their strength with a decisive 36-29 victory over Monticello. Meanwhile, Chanhassen secured a solid win against St. Thomas Academy, finishing at 38-21, and Owatonna clinched a narrow victory over Cretin-Derham Hall, winning 22-21 in overtime.

Switching gears to the CLASS 3A STATE TOURNAMENT, it was a close contest as Dassel-Cokato triumphed over Fairmont with a score of 29-28. Pequot Lakes also had an impressive performance, winning against Annandale 22-15. Stewartville dominated Holy Family with a wide margin, finishing at 40-14.

In the NORTHWEST SUBURBAN conference, Centennial/Spring Lake Park defeated Maple Grove 4-2, while in the SUBURBAN EAST conference, White Bear Lake came out on top against Mounds View/Irondale with a score of 6-4.

The metropolitan area saw some exciting clashes as Alexandria shut out Buffalo 3-0, and Blaine just scraped by Owatonna with a 4-3 win. Other notable results included Blake defeating Osseo/Park Center 5-0, and Eastview besting Chaska/Chanhassen 5-1. Hastings also scored big with a 4-1 victory against Rochester Mayo.

As we move to swimming, the CLASS 2A Section 3 meet saw Eastview earning a score of 419, well ahead of Rosemount at 392. Notable qualifiers included Hastings and Apple Valley in the 200 freestyle relay, as both teams earned spots for the state meet.

The action continued in the VOLLEYBALL category, where Lakeville South claimed the CLASS 4A STATE TOURNAMENT championship, defeating Champlin Park in a nail-biting five-set match that ended at 15-10 in the finale. In CLASS 3A, Alexandria outlasted Marshall to take the championship, winning 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, and 25-22.

This active weekend in Minnesota high school sports highlighted not only the competitive spirit of the athletes but also the community’s support and excitement for local teams. As games continue, more results and stories are sure to emerge from the fields and courts across the state.
