Celebration of lottery winnings in North Carolina

North Carolina, September 10, 2025

News Summary

Eight lucky Powerball players in North Carolina are celebrating after winning significant prizes in a recent drawing. Three players doubled their winnings to $100,000 by opting for the Power Play option, while five others won $50,000 each. The winning tickets were purchased at various locations, contributing to the state’s exciting lottery engagement. Although the massive $1.8 billion jackpot was won outside of North Carolina, the state continues to see growth in lottery participation and sales.

Charlotte, North Carolina – Eight Powerball players in North Carolina are celebrating after matching all but one number in the September 6 drawing, which had a staggering jackpot of $1.8 billion. Each of the lucky ticket holders has won either $50,000 or $100,000 based on their selection of the Power Play option.

The winning numbers for the drawing were white balls: 11-23-44-61-62, and the red Powerball: 17. Among the eight winners, three opted for the Power Play, doubling their prizes to $100,000. Tickets sold at various locations contributed to these winnings.

Specifically, the $100,000 winning tickets were purchased at:

  • Food Lion in Angier
  • Speedy Mart in Forest City
  • One online player in Durham

Meanwhile, five players are taking home $50,000 each, with tickets sold at:

  • Food Lion in Fayetteville
  • Circle K in Kernersville
  • Foust Corner Market in Mebane
  • One online player in Angier
  • One online player in Raleigh

Interestingly, the massive $1.8 billion jackpot was won outside of North Carolina, shared between two winners in Missouri and Texas, prompting the state’s biggest lottery prize to reset to $20 million for the next drawing.

All winners are encouraged to sign their tickets as a means to validate ownership and claim their prizes. In addition to these substantial prizes, over 200 other players across North Carolina also secured smaller winnings by matching either four white ball numbers or three white ball numbers in addition to the Powerball.

North Carolina’s state-run lottery has reported impressive growth, exceeding $1 billion for the third consecutive year, attributed to an increase in both in-store and digital sales. For the fiscal year 2025, the state recorded an unprecedented $6.6 billion in sales. Notably, nearly 40% of this total came from its digital product known as Digital Instants, allowing players the convenience of purchasing tickets online.

The significant growth in lottery engagement can be linked to the state’s rising population and the allure of large multistate jackpots. Currently, the average annual spending on lottery tickets per North Carolinian is about $421. This trend highlights the increased popularity of lottery games within the region.

While many celebrate their lottery winnings, the state emphasizes the importance of responsible gambling. Resources are available to help those who may face challenges with gambling through the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700.
