Lottery ticket for the Powerball jackpot

Fredericksburg, Texas, September 15, 2025

News Summary

Two tickets matched all five numbers plus the Powerball, resulting in a split of the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot. One ticket was purchased in Fredericksburg, Texas, and the other in St. Louis, Missouri. Winners may claim their shares as an annuity or lump-sum payment. The Texas gas station will receive a retailer bonus, while the Missouri retailer’s bonus amount is yet to be disclosed. With considerable excitement in the air, neither winner has come forward to claim their prize.

Fredericksburg, Texas – Two tickets matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the Sept. 6, 2025, drawing, resulting in a split of the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot, the second-largest in United States history. The winning numbers drawn were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the Powerball was 17.

One of the winning tickets was purchased at Big’s 103 gas station and convenience store in Fredericksburg, Texas, while the other ticket was sold at a QuikTrip gas station and convenience store in St. Louis, Missouri. The winners will have the choice to claim their share of the jackpot either as an annuity of $893.5 million or as a lump-sum payment of $410.3 million.

The deadline for winners to claim their prizes is March 5, 2025. Claims must be made in person at the respective state lottery headquarters. As of now, neither winner has come forward almost a week after the drawing, with the vetting process for winners potentially taking several weeks to a month.

Additionally, lottery officials reported that the gas station in Texas where the winning ticket was sold is eligible for a $250,000 retailer bonus, while the bonus amount for the retailer in Missouri remains undisclosed. This significant jackpot has sparked widespread excitement, particularly among residents in the areas where the tickets were sold.

This drawing also marked the end of a jackpot drought that stretched back to May 31, 2025. Before this event, no winning tickets had been sold since a previous jackpot that reached $1.4 billion. The occasion is historically notable, as it is the first time Missouri has landed on the “billion-dollar lottery prize winners” list and it marks the 13th instance in which a lottery jackpot crossed the billion-dollar threshold in the U.S.

The record for the largest Powerball jackpot remains at $2.04 billion, which was won in California on November 7, 2022. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, making such wins exceptionally rare.

The Texas Lottery emphasizes the role of lottery sales in funding good causes within local communities. In statements made after the drawing, the manager of the Texas gas station expressed hope that a local resident had won, reflecting sentiments among customers who wish for the prize to go to someone in need, especially following recent flooding in Kerrville, Texas.

After the drawing, the jackpot had reset to $20 million following the period of rollovers. This significant increase in the jackpot reflects intense interest in the lottery, which has been heightened by the anticipation of life-changing winnings for those fortunate enough to hold winning tickets.

Players must remember they need to claim their prizes within 180 days (or six months) from the date of the drawing. When purchasing their tickets, participants in the Texas Lottery must decide either for the cash value option or the annual payments, a choice that is irrevocable once made.

The excitement surrounding this record-breaking draw demonstrates the national fascination with lottery games, as millions aspire to a chance at life-altering wealth and the possibility of dream fulfillment.
