Pittsburgh High School Sports Heat Up with Crucial Playoff Matchups This Week

Exciting High School Sports Action This Week

As the sports season reaches its peak in Pittsburgh, fans can look forward to an action-packed week filled with high school hockey, soccer, tennis, and volleyball playoff games. There are many exciting matchups scheduled, showcasing local talent and fierce competition.

In hockey, several games are lined up for Monday, October 21, 2024. In Class 3A, Franklin Regional will take on Upper St. Clair at Ice Castle, starting at 9 p.m. Meanwhile, in Class 2A, Penn-Trafford will face Bishop McCort at the Cambria County War Memorial at 6 p.m. Other noteworthy games include Fox Chapel versus Norwin at Palmer Imaging Arena at 7:10 p.m., and Hampton playing against North Hills at RMU Island Sports Center at 7:15 p.m.

The WPIAL soccer playoffs are also in full swing. On Tuesday, Plum (15-0-3) has earned a bye, while Gateway will play away at Canon-McMillan at 6:30 p.m. Other first-round matches feature exciting teams such as Central Catholic against North Allegheny and Pine-Richland facing Upper St. Clair, both kicking off at 6:30 p.m.

For tennis enthusiasts, the PIAA playoffs start Tuesday. In Class 3A, Cumberland Valley meets Lower Merion at 10:30 a.m., while Shady Side Academy goes up against Hollidaysburg later in the afternoon at 4 p.m.

Lastly, the girls’ volleyball playoffs are heating up as well. On Tuesday, Penn-Trafford takes on Armstrong at 7 p.m., with Fox Chapel visiting Upper St. Clair at the same time. Close matches are expected as the teams battle for their place in the finals.

This week promises to be thrilling for all sports fans in the area, with teams giving their all in pursuit of victory. Be sure to catch the local high school sports action!
