Today marks a *big day for the beautiful town of Lexington*! After years of planning and overcoming obstacles, the Old Mill Pond Trail is officially open for the public to enjoy. Residents and visitors alike are invited to celebrate with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 13. It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together and appreciate what this lovely new trail has to offer.
The Old Mill Pond Trail is a delightful 1.15-mile paved loop that winds around the historic Lexington Mill Pond. This picturesque area is not just about the trail, though; it’s also home to popular spots like the Hazelwood Brewing Company and The Tent Coffee Shop. So whether you fancy a refreshing brew or a cozy cup of coffee after your stroll, you have options right at your fingertips!
The Lexington Old Mill has quite the history! Built in the 1890s, it was originally known as the Lexington Manufacturing Company and played a significant role in the local economy by generating power for an impressive 200 looms and 7,000 spindles. Fast forward to the 1980s, and the mill was transformed into a mixed-use development, adding a unique character to the town.
The path had been envisioned as part of the town’s Vision Plan back in 2012, but plans faced a significant setback due to the devastating Thousand Year Flood in 2015. Many believed that the dream of the Old Mill Pond Trail might never come to fruition. However, the resilience of the Town of Lexington shone through, as they went back to the drawing board and worked diligently to bring the project to life. Nine years later, residents can finally enjoy this wonderful outdoor space!
As you set foot on the trail, prepare yourself for a delightful experience surrounded by nature. Whether you are jogging, biking, or taking a leisurely walk, the trail invites all forms of enjoyment! Look out for scenic views of the pond, and keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife that may be taking a dip or frolicking nearby.
In addition to its natural beauty, the trail also serves as a communal gathering spot. Families can bring their children to play in the nearby parks, pet lovers can exercise their furry friends, and friends can enjoy a lovely day in the sun. With ample space for everyone, the trail fosters a sense of community spirit.
If you haven’t already marked your calendar, be sure to join in the festivities at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. It’s a wonderful chance to meet others in the community and celebrate a milestone that not only reflects the town’s history but also its future. After all the hard work and dedication, the opening of the Old Mill Pond Trail is a testament to what a community can achieve together.
So lace up those walking shoes, grab a friend, and head out to stroll on Lexington’s newest addition. The trail is waiting for you to explore, relax, and enjoy! Here’s to new adventures on the Old Mill Pond Trail!
