The Newberry Wolves Softball team displayed remarkable resilience during a doubleheader against Limestone. Despite losing the first game 6-2, the Wolves rebounded in game two, securing a 9-6 victory. Maddy Staples and Ella Stone were standout players, contributing significantly to their team’s performance. The Wolves now aim to channel their momentum into their next matchup against UVA Wise.
In a thrilling showcase of grit and determination, the Newberry Wolves Softball team faced off against Limestone in a doubleheader that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Set in a picturesque ballpark, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as players donned their uniforms, ready to make their mark on the field.
Unfortunately for Newberry, the first game didn’t go as planned. They began with a glimmer of hope as Maddy Staples hit a fantastic leadoff home run in the very first inning, tying the game at 1-1 after Limestone had made their opener. Ella Stone later contributed to the scoreboard with an RBI groundout during the fifth inning, giving Newberry a brief 2-1 lead. But just when it looked like Newberry might pull ahead, Limestone struck back with ferocity.
In the sixth inning, Limestone managed to rally and score two runs, and by the seventh inning, they sealed the victory with an impressive three-run surge, finishing the game with a score of 6-2. Despite the loss, the Wolves showcased their talent with five hits overall, and it was Staples again shining bright, going 2-for-4, while GraceAnn Thompkins had a solid performance, hitting 2-for-3.
Lindsey Foster took to the mound for Newberry, pitching six innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits. Her effort kept the game competitive, though it resulted in her seventh loss of the season, bringing her win-loss record to 7-8.
