Newberry College Board Upholds the Tuition Promise and Approves New Rates for 2024-2025

NEWBERRY, Mar 23, 2024 – The Board of Trustees at Newberry College has recently endorsed new tuition, accommodation, and food service rates for the academic year 2024-2025. Besides establishing this fiscal structure, the board has also reiterated its commitment to the Tuition Promise, thereby securing existing tuition fees for all students throughout their four-year duration in the institution.

Tuition Promise offers Locked-in Rates

The Tuition Promise, a progressive initiative by Newberry College, safeguards students from tuition hikes during their four-year journey at the college. This resolution will reside in effect for both fresh and returning students, freezing their tuition fees at the point of their enrollment. In response to these changes, there will be a slight 1.97% increase in tuition, fees, room, and board rates in the coming academic year.

Projected Operational Budget Boost

Concurrently, the board approved a preliminary operational budget projecting revenue at $37.73 million; which incorporates a surge in institutional financial aid and scholarships, personnel salaries, and funds directed towards supporting the new residence hall currently under construction set to commence in the fall of 2024. This decision emphasizes the Board’s recognition and appreciation for the collective dedication and talents of Newberry College’s students, faculty, and staff, considered the cornerstone for the institution’s ongoing growth and success.

Pathway Towards Promising Developments

Additionally, the board has given the green light to the College’s master plan, which serves as a strategic blueprint for campus development in accordance with the continuous growth of student enrollments, programs, and athletics. This comprehensive plan focuses on the institution’s physical spaces’ needs, uses, and character – present and future.

Upcoming major campus improvements encompass the completion of the athletic stadium, the business program’s new home, upgraded classrooms and laboratories, and new student residences. Notably, the project includes the construction of the college’s first student union and bridges the gap between the center of the campus’ buildings and the Teacher Education Center at Speers St. This forward-looking plan, open to periodic reviews and updates, is fundamentally a declaration for a bold future for Newberry College.

Honor and Recognition

The board also took the time to recognize diligence and dedicated service towards the college. Dr. Jody Thompson, an associate professor of Psychology who joined the Newberry faculty in 2019, received tenure and promotion. The board also paid tribute to its two outgoing members, Larry DiBiase, class of 1969, and Eric Wells, class of 1987. Capping off the meeting, Sylvester Coleman, class of 1987, was installed as an at-large member for a three-year term.

Onwards and Upwards

To conclude, Newberry College is on its way to realizing a mature phase filled with developmental strategies and feature enhancements, centered on student accessibility and inclusivity. The commitments and decisions made in the board meeting pave the way for a sustained catapult towards a promising future.
