The University of South Carolina baseball team suffered a tough 6-4 loss to NC State in game four of the 2024 NCAA Raleigh Regional on Saturday night at Doak Field. Dylan Brewer led the Gamecocks with an impressive performance, hitting two home runs and driving in three runs.

Game Highlights

Brewer’s two-run homer in the seventh inning tied the game at four apiece, but NC State managed to score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk. They added an insurance run in the eighth inning due to a throwing error.

The Wolfpack showcased their power at the plate with three home runs, including two from Garrett Pennington. Will Tippett also contributed with a solo home run in the third inning.

Unfortunately for the Gamecocks, the loss was credited to Connor McCreery, who allowed the decisive run in just a third of an inning. Garrett Gainey started on the mound for Carolina, pitching the first six innings and surrendering four runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

Postgame Notes

– Cole Messina extended his on-base streak to 20 games.

– Brewer made his first start since April 26.

– This was the second consecutive year that Carolina and NC State faced off in the Saturday night game of a regional.

The Gamecocks will take on James Madison in game five of the NCAA Raleigh Regional on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for noon as Carolina looks to bounce back from the tough loss to NC State.
