Mount Pleasant, SC – A new mobile application aimed at simplifying recycling efforts for South Carolina residents has been officially launched. The Recycle Here SC app, created through a partnership between the SC Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), PalmettoPride, and the SC Beverage Association, is designed to provide comprehensive details about recycling locations and guidelines across the state.
Launched on November 15, 2024, the app comes just in time for America Recycles Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of recycling and its benefits for the environment. This innovative tool aims to address the prevalent issues of confusion regarding recyclable materials and contamination in recycling bins.

The launch event featured several key figures, including Lt. Governor Pamela S. Evette, Myra Reece, the Interim Director of SCDES, and other representatives from the partnering organizations. The funding for the development of the app was provided through the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, supplemented by support from PalmettoPride and the SC Beverage Association.
