Winter Sports Season Kicks Off in Vermont

This week in Vermont, the winter sports season officially began with exciting games across various high schools. The start of the season has brought fierce competition as teams squared off in basketball, hockey, and more.

In a hotly contested basketball matchup, Mount Mansfield took down Colchester with a score of 58-40. Maysa Long led the charge for Mount Mansfield, scoring 16 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Rowan Butler added another 11 points along with 6 rebounds. For Colchester, Dakota Karpinski shined with 20 points, including four 3-pointers in the first half, but the team couldn’t keep pace as they were outscored 16-4 in the third quarter.

Another close game was between Blue Mountain and Sharon, where Blue Mountain managed to edge out Sharon with a final score of 34-32. Meanwhile, St. Johnsbury made a strong statement by defeating Colchester 59-40, with Michael Rodriguez Guerrero scoring 19 points to lead his team.

In wrestling, the action was heating up with Hazen defeating Peoples 69-49, showcasing Brendan Moodie’s impressive 42 points. Additionally, Lyndon handled Lake Region with a score of 41-29, thanks to Ethan Lussier who posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

In hockey, Rice claimed victory over Colchester with a decisive score of 7-1, highlighted by Vincent Lanzetta’s remarkable hat trick. Players are gearing up for more thrilling matchups as the winter season gains momentum.
