Mission Lexington Opens Doors for Behind-the-Scenes Tour on May 17

Lexington, South Carolina – Mission Lexington, a revered charitable organization in the city, offered a unique opportunity for residents to delve into the inner workings of their institution on Friday, May 17. Between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., the group hosted a guided behind-the-scenes tour, featuring a closer look at their operations accompanied by an inviting breakfast.

Decades of Service

Launch in 1978 from the collective efforts of four churches, Mission Lexington has dedicated itself to serving individuals and families with limited resources and immediate needs. The organization, based at 216 Harmon St., has made considerable strides in providing life’s necessities, from food and clothing to shelter and guidance.

In 2022 alone, Mission Lexington met an impressive count of over 31,800 needs within Lexington County. Their efforts ranged from providing a blended family of six with new housing to equipping a father with interview clothes to support his family.

Today, their daily operations are supported by a comprehensive network spanning local businesses, government agencies, corporations, organizations, individuals, and 54 member-churches, continually fueling their vision.

Expanding to Reach More in Need

Over time, Mission Lexington has operated from various locations, stretching out as their needs and capacity expanded. Their current site in downtown Lexington on Harmon Street houses a thrift store, food pantry, mobile food pantry, donation center, and administration offices, besides their primary social services.

A Spiritual Driving Force

The organization is anchored by a spiritual base, keeping their mission rooted in serving neighbors amid a crisis for the glorification of God. The very essence of their work is encapsulated in the scripture, Matthew 25:40, as they strive to provide Lexington County residents with food, clothing, shelter, and resources during challenging times.

The Much-Awaited Open House

Opening their doors for the behind-the-scenes tour offered residents a firsthand experience of the inner workings of Mission Lexington. The guided journey round their headquarters aimed to showcase the extent of work carried out by Executive Director Robin Bowers and her devoted team, ensuring the sustenance of people in need. Participants were treated to breakfast options, including bagels, coffee, and a warm grits bar while learning about Mission Lexington’s work.

The open house event was more than just a sightseeing tour — it was a testament to the organization’s unwavering commitment to improving lives one need at a time.

This transparency allows for a real-time view of the hard work and dedication that goes into the support systems community’s rely on. Organizations like Mission Lexington continue to be pillars of support in the community, serving those in their most vulnerable times.
