High School Sports Roundup from Miami

In Miami, the local high school sports scene has seen some significant developments recently. After 35 seasons at the helm, boys’ bowling coach Adam Scholer has decided to step down from the Miami Columbus Explorers. Under his guidance, the team won a state championship in 1999 and recorded a remarkable house of accomplishments, including 12 consecutive undefeated seasons, along with 16 district championships and numerous titles in the GMAC and the Miami-Dade Youth Fair. The Explorers advanced to the state competition once again this year, finishing 17th. Scholer expressed gratitude for the years spent coaching, stating, “It has been an incredible run, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

In football, Miami True North showcased an impressive performance by shutting out Palmer Trinity with a score of 42-0 in the Region 4-1A quarterfinals. Quarterback Zac Katz led the Titans with 157 yards passing and three touchdowns on the ground. The Titans’ defense also stepped up, with notable contributions from Camaul King, who returned an interception for a 49-yard touchdown.

The Columbus boys’ soccer team had a narrow victory against Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas by a score of 2-1, with Jorge Gonzalez-Tello scoring both goals for the Explorers. Meanwhile, in the Champions League, Davie NSU University School and Miami Gulliver Prep played to a 1-1 tie, with Alex Sasser scoring for the Sharks.

In girls’ soccer, Parkland Stoneman Douglas edged out Weston Cypress Bay 1-0, while Miami Palmetto found success with a 2-1 win over TERRA. The Panthers’ standout was Abigail Pereira, who scored both goals.

As for basketball, the preseason tip-off classics are underway, bringing excitement as teams prepare for the upcoming season. In girls’ basketball, Palmer Trinity kicked off the regular season with a 62-38 victory over North Broward Prep.

Looking ahead, the 2024 Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic is set to take place on Dec. 27, 28, and 30, at Westminster Christian School. The tournament will feature eight boys’ teams and eight girls’ teams competing for the title.

This week in Miami, the energy is high as teams compete hard and strive for excellence. Fans are encouraged to continue supporting their local athletes as the season progresses.
